Rock River Fishing

At Rock River Basin, one of Illinois’ best sport fishing areas, you can land the coveted trophy-sized catfish. Although there are over 80 different fish species here, channel catfish are the most abundant. Other popular fish species in the Rock River include bluegill and crappie. An annual stock of nearly 70,000 walleye provides the river with a plentiful supply of fish. In the backwaters of the river, you’ll find panfish, bluegill, crappie, and largemouth bass. The north section, near Rockford, is home to a limited population of northern pike.
