Utah Rainbow Trout Fishing Map
With so many prime rainbow trout rivers and lakes to choose from it’s difficult to know just where to start. Any of the water systems marked on the map below are prime spots to target rainbows. A few of the more productive fishing spots for rainbow trout include Strawberry Reservoir, Rockport Reservoir and Flaming Gorge.
If you’re looking for a more serene scenic fishing experience, you might want to try Moose Pond along HWY 44, Green Lakes at Red Canyon Lodge or Little Hole on the Green River just downstream from Flaming Gorge Dam. For some good shore-side fishing along the Green, wet your line at Buckboard, Lucerne or Cedar Springs Marinas.
Utah is both a fly fishing mecca and paradise. Anglers come far and wide to experience some of the best fly fishing in the Northwest. The Lower Provo River in the canyon, Green River below Flaming Gorge, Weber River just downstream from Rockport Reservoir, Strawberry Pinnacles, Duchesne River and Current Creek are just a few of the amazing fly fishing locations where you’ll find rainbows.
Utah Cutthroat Trout Fishing Map
Utah is home to some of the best cutthroat trout fisheries in the nation. There are four native species of cutthroats you’ll find in Utah: Bonneville Cutthroat Trout, Colorado Cutthroats, Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout and Bear River Cutthoat Trout—with Bonneville being the most prolific and Yellowstone the rarest.
Bear Lake/River Cutthroats (BRCT) are found in the Upper Bear River and its major tributaries: East Fork, West Fork, Hayden Fork, Stillwater and Mill Creek. The Weber and Ogden Rivers also hold sizeable populations of Bear Lake Cutthroats.
Bonneville Cutthroat (BCT) are found throughout the streams and river systems of the Bonneville Basin. They tend to be one of the more prolific strains of cutthroat found in Utah. They’re also found throughout the Weber and Ogden river systems and tributaries.
Yellowstone cutthroat trout are by far the rarest cutthroats in Utah. Their distribution is limited to a few regions of northwest Utah. Almost all populations of the Yellowstone cutthroat are found in the Raft River drainage. You’ll find the greatest chances of catching Yellowstone cutthroats in Johnson Creek, Onemile Creek/Sawmill Canyon, and George Creek (headwaters below Cabin Spring)
Colorado River cutthroats (CRCT) are native to the Green and Colorado rivers. You’ll find cutthroats throughout the streams that flow into the Green and Colorado rivers, but many are remote and difficult to access. You’ll find CRCT through the North Slope of the Unita Mountains, South Slope of the Uintas, North Tavaputs Plateau, Escalante River system and Boulder Mountain Lakes.
Utah Brown Trout Fishing Map
Utah offers some of the best brown trout streams in the country. From the Logan River in Northern Utah down south as far as Pine Valley Reservoir you’ll find Brown trout in many of the high mountain rivers, valley streams, and reservoirs.
Anglers will find descent fishing conditions for Brown trout at most of the spots marked on the above map, but admittedly some streams are more productive than others.
A few of the most consistent producing Brown trout fisheries include the middle Provo River, Weber River, the Santa Clara, Sevier River, Beaver River, Ogden River, Blacksmith Fork, and the mighty Green River downstream from Flaming Gorge.
For a little fly fishing action on some of Utah’s smaller streams we recommend trying out Oak Creek, Strawberry Pinnacles, Currant Creek, and the Duchesne River.
Utah Brook Trout Fishing Map
Brook trout are found in many of Utah’s higher elevation cold water lakes and streams with the highest populations in Utah’s Unita and Boulder mountains.
While not as large as fish found in Boulder Mountain another other lakes, many of Unita’s alpine lakes and rivers have abundant populations of hungry brook trout. There are a few lakes within the Uintas, however, such as Island lake where large trophy Brookies—in the 4 to 5 pound range—are the norm.
Other Uinta rivers and lakes that offer great fishing for Brook trout include Fish Lake, Mirror Lake, Seidner Lake (BR-31), Paul Lake (DF-18), Echo Lake, Grandaddy, Betsey Lake, Mohawke Lake, Pine Island Lake, Fern Lake an Round Lake, among others. You can find additional Brook trout fisheries in the Uintas using the Uinta Fishing Maps guide.
Outside of the high Uintas, Boulder Mountain is the premier destination for anglers wanting to target trophy brook trout. Over 35 percent of the lakes on Boulder Mountain are actively managed trophy Brook trout fisheries. The fish here are relatively large compared to their cousins in the Uintas.
Top trophy Brookie lakes in the Boulder Mountain range include Scout Lake, Oak Creek Reservoir, Cook Lake and Lower Bowns Reservoir. For a complete list of Boulder Mountain trophy Brook trout fisheries visit the Fishing Boulder Mountain guide produced by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR).
Utah Tiger Trout Fishing Map
Tiger trout can be found in a number of lakes and streams ranging from Birch Creek Reservoir in Northern Utah all the way south to Pine Valley Reservoir just north of St George. All verified Tiger trout fisheries are marked on the map below.
If Tiger trout is definitely on the menu, you’ll have the best chance of hooking one at Currant Creek Reservoir about 30 minutes northeast of Strawberry Reservoir, Navajo Lake 40 minutes southeast of Cedar City, or Paragonah Reservoir located at the halfway point between Paragonah and Panguitch.
A few other top spots to target Tigers include Huntington Reservoir in Central Utah, Joes Valley Reservoir, Scofield Reservoir, Electric Lake, Otter Creek Reservoir, Causey Reservoir, and Birch Creek.
Utah Golden Trout Fishing Map
Golden trout are not native to Utah. They have been stocked in a few select lakes within the high Uintas by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR).
There are two areas in Utah that support Golden trout populations: Atwood Creek Drainage and Murdock Basin. Within Atwood Creek Drainage, Golden trout are found in Atwood Lake (U-16), Mt. Emmons Lake (U-13), and Lake U-19. They are also found in Echo Lake (Z-16) in Murdock Basin.
Utah Walleye Fishing Map
While several Utah lakes boast populations of Walleye, there are only a few truly productive Walleye fisheries in the state. The best Walleye fisheries in Utah include Willard Bay, Starvation Reservoir and Deer Creek Reservoir.
Fishing a wounded minnow immitation at the upper end of Deer Creek Reservoir near the Provo River inlet during early spring a sure fire way to hook a Walleye.
Each year various Walleye competitions are held on Starvation Reservoir. It is one of the few Walleye fisheries that supports a healthy enough population of Walleye to sustain the sport.
Spring Walleye fishing during early March doesn’t get much better than at Willard Bay. Fish sunset into night and early morning pre-dawn to improve your chance of a successful catch. Concentrate your efforts around the mouth of the south Marina and along the North and West dikes.
Utah Northern Pike Fishing Map
Northern Pike is a bit of a delicacy for Utah anglers. Pike are found in several water ways throughout Utah, but only in abundance in a few fisheries.
The most consistent Northern Pike fisheries in Utah are Yuba Reservoir, Redmond Lake, Recapture Reservoir and the mouth of Ashley Creek on the Green River near Jensen. Anywhere else is really hit or miss.
Utah Tiger Muskie Fishing Map
Utah is home to several high-quality Tiger Muskie fisheries. At the top of the list are Pineview Reservior, Newton Reservoir, Johnson Reservoir and Yuba Reservoir—in that order.
All markers on the above map of Utah represent verified Tiger Muskie fisheries.
