New River is a popular fishing spot known for its abundant smallmouth bass. There are many other species here, including largemouth bass, striped bass, rock bass, walleye, muskie, crappie, bluegill, carp, flathead catfish, and channel catfish. You’ll find rainbow trout, brook trout, and brown trout in a few of the tributaries. Anglers find that the prime seasons to fish the river are in spring and fall. Early morning and late evening are the best times of the day to fish. A few of the fish species here are night feeders, which provides great night fishing opportunities.
