West Virginia offers a diversity of freshwater fishing opportunities for bass, trout, sunfish and catfish. West Virginia is best known as a trout fishery and provides a variety of trout fishing opportunities. Brook trout is the only native trout species in West Virginia, but due to a robust stocking program, anglers can also catch brown trout, rainbow trout and the rare golden rainbow trout in more than 200 of West Virginia’s waterways.
