Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area has one of the United States’ standout lakes for trophy trout and Kokanee salmon, and draws anglers from around the world seeking a 50-plus-pounder. Catching one of these trout takes time, and the average catch rate at Flaming Gorge is one lake trout per 25 hours of fishing. But if you’re willing to put in the time, you can expect to land a specimen in excess of 25 pounds. The lake trout tend to dwell at depths of 70-120 feet, while other, less evasive gamefish in the reservoir include rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and catfish.
