Pactola Reservoir is considered by some locals to be the best fishing spot in all of South Dakota. Located just 15 miles from Rapid City, this 785-acre lake is a great place to catch brown, lake, and rainbow trout. The lake’s trophy-sized lake trout are especially sought after. Other fish you can catch here include sunfish, rock bass, yellow perch, largemouth bass, black crappie, and northern pike. This 400-acre reservoir has 14 miles of shoreline and gets up to 150 foot deep in some spots, making it the deepest and largest reservoir in the Black Hills National Forest. You’ll find many amenities here, including a marina that offers boat slips, groceries, food, gas, oil, showers, and laundry.
