Just west of Spearfish Canyon in Lawrence Canyon, you’ll find a beautiful fishing spot called Iron Creek Lake. This 24-acre lake holds a large population of yellow perch, rainbow trout and brook trout. South Dakota lakes usually contain trout, but Iron Creek Lake is one of the few that can boast a plentiful number of yellow perch. Circling the lake, you’ll find a one-mile trail that provides access to the shore. You can either fish from the banks or from the fishing dock. Those who want to access the entire lake can rent a canoe or kayak from the local store. While not very well known by outsiders, Iron Creek Lake is considered by the locals to be an excellent fishing location.
