The Outer Banks are well known for their great fishing, especially in the area around Ocracoke Island. Much of the shoreline is undeveloped, which provides an excellent opportunity for peaceful surf fishing. And if you prefer to charter a boat and head offshore, head to the nearby Gulf Stream. If you’re looking to catch big game fish, Ocracoke Island is the place to be. Here, you can catch yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, blackfin tuna, wahoo, trout, drum, mahi, sailfish, red fish, and white marlin. If you get really lucky during your offshore excursion, you may even land yourself a blue marlin. For the best surf fishing, stick to the beaches off the Ocracoke and Hatteras inlets. You can find big game fish here all year, and in the spring and fall, you can catch drums, sharks, bluefish, flounder Spanish mackerel, pompano, spots, croaker, and many other impressive species.
