If you’re looking for great trout fishing, plan a visit to Ramapo River. This river, which sits on the East side of the Ramapo Mountains, is one of New Jersey’s best known fly-fishing rivers. Ramapo River offers both amateurs and experts the chance to enjoy a successful day of fishing. This beautiful river is full of deep pools, riffles, and runs. The fishing here starts in May and runs through the majority of the summer. Most people target the trout using dry flies, but you can catch other fish here as well, including sunfish, catfish, bass, perch, pickerel, and crappie. The best fishing spots along the river are located at Ramapo Valley County Reservation, Mahwah; Midvale Mountain Road Bridge, Mahwah; Roosevelt Boulevard, Oakland; and River Road and Oak Street, Oakland.
