Balch Pond Fishing

Balch Pond is the perfect location for those who like to target both warm- and cold-water game fish. Located along the Maine-New Hampshire border, this pond connects with Stumps Pond. Here, you can catch smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, black crappie, chain pickerel, brown bullhead, and yellow perch. Some lucky fishermen have even caught bass weighing more than five pounds. Due to its exceptional fishing, Balch Pond is home to many fishing derbies and tournaments. There aren’t many state-owned access sites or public boat launches here, so most people head to the outlet dam off Action Ridge Road/Shady Hook Road to launch their canoes and car toppers. If you have a trailered boat, you can still get on the water – you’ll just have to pay a fee to use a private access point on the northeastern side.
