Cave Lake Fishing

If you’re looking for an excellent trout-fishing location, pay a visit to Cave Lake. This 32-acre lake has an average depth of 25 feet and can get up to 60 feet deep in some spots. Cave Lake is stocked with brown and rainbow trout – some of which grow rather large. In fact, the state-record, 27-pound, 5-ounce brown trout was pulled from these waters. Here you’ll find excellent year-round fishing, including ice fishing. To have the best chances of catching trout, try bottom fishing with salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, or Power Bait. You can also try spinners. If you prefer fly fishing, head to the area where Cave Creek flows into the lake. You’ll have the best chances of success if you use wooly butter or nymph patterns with sinking line. When it comes to ice fishing, use bright-colored jibs or normal baits. In the Steptoe Creek area, you’ll find plenty of rainbow trout thanks to help of a hatchery. There are plenty of amenities to enjoy at Cave Lake, including a boat ramp and dock, picnic area, fish-cleaning station, running water, showers, restrooms and 34 campsites.
