Lake McConaughy Fishing

Known for its clear, deep waters, Lake McConaughy is a great place to enjoy a full day of fishing. There are plenty of game fish here, including walleye, channel catfish, sunfish, northern pike, wiper, smallmouth, and white bass, and more. Local anglers come here mainly for the walleye. Also known as Lake Mac, this lake is home to Nebraska’s current state record – a 16-pound, 2-ounce walleye. It’s no wonder this lake is home to several walleye tournaments. This lake provides a great habitat for fish and baitfish, offering plenty of brush for cover. The lake contains several boat ramps and docks – some of which may not be usable depending on the water level. Contact the Visitor’s Center before heading out to check the ramp availability. Various vendors around the lake offer fuel and boat rentals, and when the day is over, you can clean your catch in one of three cleaning stations located at Otter Creek, Cedar View and Martin Bay.
