Lake Maloney, south of North Platte, is a boating and fishing paradise. This 1,600-acre lake is full of a wide variety of fish species, including bass, catfish, walleye, trout, and sunfish. There are several boat docks here and ample vegetation, which provide the fish and baitfish with many hiding places. Most people fish from canoes and kayaks, though you can also fish by boat or other watercraft. Shore fishing is another excellent option. You can access the shore in various spots around the lake, or you can simply use the wheelchair-accessible deck. In the winter, when the ice is safe, Lake Maloney is an excellent place for ice fishing. If you want to stay overnight, you’ll find campgrounds with RV hookups at Lake Mahoney State Recreation Area.
