Box Butte Reservoir Fishing

If you want to fish in one of Nebraska’s finest, all-around fishing lakes, plan a trip to Box Butte Reservoir. Home to several state-record catches, this reservoir is a popular destination for those in search of large pike. You can catch other fish here as well, including walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, rock bass, yellow perch, bluegills, crappies, and blue and channel catfish. If you’re hoping to catch big predator fish, opt for lures or jigs. For the panfish, head over to the shallows and tempt them with bait. Note that the fishing opportunities here can change, depending on the water levels. When the reservoir reaches its fullest levels, the fish like to hide in the shallows and around structures in the deeper sections. You can fish from the shore or hop in a kayak, canoe, or fishing boat. Then, after you’ve caught your fill of fish, head over to one of the cleaning stations.
