For great summertime bass fishing, head over to Columbus Lake. The average bass here weighs about two to three pounds and can generally be found in the deeper water of the gravel pits, near the shoreline. The lake offers fishermen the chance to catch many different types of game fish, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, catfish, carp, redear sunfish, crappie, and bream/bluegill. The crappie tend to hang out in the deeper water around laydowns and structures and respond well to jigs or minnows. If you’re looking for catfish, try fishing near the backwater areas or along the channel using cut or whole shad.
