Those who enjoy trout fishing will enjoy a trip to the upper Gunpower Falls tailwater. The majority (97%) of trout you’ll find here are brown trout, although you can also find rainbow and brook trout here as well. To target the rainbow trout, which are stocked here annually, you’ll want to stick to the 1.2 miles of river between Falls Road and the dam. For the brown trout, your best bet is to fish throughout the tailwater near the tributaries. You can find most of the wild brown trout in the put-and-take section upstream. When it comes to size, most of the brown trout range from 8-11 inches, although some can be as large as 12-15 inches. While Gunpower Falls is an amazing fishing location, be aware that it is managed under catch-and-return, statewide wild trout, and put-and-take regulations.
