Kankakee River Fishing

If you’re looking for a great area for sport fishing, head over to Kankakee River. Early spring and autumn are prime seasons to catch smallmouth bass; however, there are many other species available. Anglers also catch walleye, channel catfish, rock bass, and northern pike. The most effective fishing methods include crankbait, jigs, spinners, lures, and live bait (crayfish, frog, minnow, worm). Largemouth bass tend to frequent the backwaters of the Kankakee River in the Des Plaines Conservation Area. You’ll find northern pike in the quiet waters along the river, such as tributaries, the backsides of islands, or jutting rocks.
