Anglers and their families enjoy Deer Lakes, where the fish are plentiful, and wildlife thrives. Aspen trees surround the bodies of the lakes, which sit in a gorgeous mountain valley. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department ensures that these lakes are well-stocked with trout (brook, rainbow) and other species of fish.
There is a campground near the lakes offering easy fishing access. The 15 campsites available are first-come, first-served, and they are open between June 1st and September 29th. The lakes and camping facilities are only a half-hour outside Lake City, where you can buy bait and supplies. You will need to store bait, food, and the fish you catch in bear-proof containers as the site is in bear country. Visit the Deer Lakes campground website for more detailed information about camping fees.
