Many anglers use the wishbone rig for fishing for flatfish. This rig works especially well for fishing flounder, plaice, and dabs. The wishbone rig allows anglers to use two hooks on the seabed at the same time and within a close distance of one another. This gives the advantage of helping concentrate the bait scent trail into a smaller area. Smaller fish will bite on the hooks individually, but larger fish may consume both at once. This can be a very effective rig when fishing in a tide run. Due to the complex nature of the wishbone rig, it is not well suited for rough terain. It works best on sandy beaches where it won’t snag on underwater cover.
