The whole-mullet rig is a great rig to use for predatory fish, such as bluefish, albacore tuna, sharks, redfish, and striped bass. This rig is specifically designed for fish that attack their prey from behind.
To make this rig, place the hook in the baitfish’s tail. That way, the predator will get hooked in the jaw when it takes a bite of the “prey.”
When using this rig to catch large predators, try adding baitfish, such as whole mullet. Then be prepared to get some heavy bites. This rig features a Styrofoam float that is attached just before the hook. This suspends the bait in the water so it won’t get attacked by bottom-dwelling crabs.
