Slip Float Rig

The slip float rig, more commonly known as a slip bobber rig, consists of a fishing line, hook, slip bobber, bobber stop and weight. The bobber stop goes above the slip bobber to limit how far up the line the slip bobber can go. The hook and the weight go beneath the slip bobber. The slip bobber can slide along the fishing line between the bobber stop above it and weight affixed to the line below it. When this rig is cast, the line is pulled through the slip bobber by the weight until it reaches the bobber stop. An optional bead can be placed between the slip bobber and bobber stop to prevent the stopper from getting stuck in the top of the bobber.

Slip Float Rig

The beauty of the slip float rig compared to a fixed bobber setup is that you’re able fish at any depth you desire. You can fish in either shallow or deep water, depending on where along the fishing line the slip bobber is positioned. To adjust the position of the slip bobber, simply move the bobber stop up or down the line. Move the bobber stop down the line closer to the hook to decrease fishing depth. Move the bobber stop up the line away from the hook to increase fishing depth.

The slip float rig is productive for targeting a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish species including crappie, walleye, trout, red fish, and sheepshead to name just a few. This is a great rig for fishing the in the ocean as you can easily adjust the depth of your bait to match the changing tide.
