In-line Sinker Drift Rig

If you plan to go drifting for stripers, one of the best fishing rigs is the in-line sinker drift rig. This rig is generally made with braided line and conventional tackle.

In-line Sinker Drift Rig

There are several ways to make the in-line sinker drift rig. The most popular option involves snelling a hook to the leader, then using a swivel to attach the leader to the main line. Directly above the swivel, attach a rubber-core sinker that is encircled with an in-line wrap. You can also change the sinker on your in-line rig to an in-line swivel or chain sinker. An in-line swivel is a slim sinker that has a swivel at both ends. This allows you to attach your hook and leader right to the sinker. By using this type of rig, you won’t experience as much line twisting that often happens with drifting live eels or other baits.

An alternative setup for this rig is to place an egg sinker above the swivel on the main line. Then attach the hook and leader to the swivel. The type of bait you select will determine the size of the hook you should use.
