A D rig can be useful in many different fishing scenarios. It is easy to make and is also very effective. To make D rig, anglers generally opt for monofilament or fluorocarbon line, which they tie in a D-shaped loop.
This rig works best when fishing with wafters and bottom baits. The D-shaped loop on which the bait sits, helps keep the bait close to the hook. This design also allows the bait to move around. When a fish engulfs the bait, it can’t easily spit it back out without getting hooked in the bottom lip.
Note that the D-shaped part of the rig is prone to clogging and snagging. The stiff hooklinks in the D rig make this rig work best when fishing on hard clear spots. However, they can be used in lightly weedy areas or over silt if they are handled with care.
