Current fishing conditions for Panguitch Lake in Panguitch, Utah.
- Catch rates for rainbows and cutthroats is steady. Some descent size rainbows and cutthroats are being pulled out with the occasional tiger trout.
- Visibility is low and the water is a bit “soupy”.
- Large rainbow trout can be found in the shallows during early morning foraging for food. As temperatures increase throughout the day trout are heading to deeper waters.
- Anglers report success trolling with the XRM80 (3.2″) jerkbait, size #7 Rapala Rattle Trap and #5 Flicker Shad crankbait in the craw pattern. The craw shad is producing best results. Cast and retrieve is not yielding as high a bite rate as trolling.
- Rapala Shad Rap #7 is one of the top producing lures for targeting trout on Panguitch. You can also fish the smaller #5.

There are three main fish species in Panguitch Lake: Rainbow Trout, Bear Lake Cutthroat Trout, and Tiger Trout.
Bait selection is determined by target fish species and time of year. During the summer months recommended bait and lure selection for trout includes:
- Jerkbaits
- Crankbaits
- Spinners
- Casting spoons
- Nightcrawlers
- PowerBait
During late summer heavy vegetation can make fishing the lake difficult in some areas.
Panguitch lake typically freezes over mid to late December. During the winter, recommended ice fishing baits include:
- Jigs tipped with meal worms, wax worms and nightcrawlers.
- Ice flies
- Salmon eggs
Using a fish finder is helpful for location where fish are holding, during the winter or summer. When ice fishing Panguitch Lake come prepared to drill several holes in order to find fish.
Casting from shore or boat is a common fishing technique on the lake. A slow troll using a jerkbait or crankbait is also effective for catching trout.
