Current fishing conditions for Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming and Utah.
- Kokanee salmon harvesting is now allowed.
- Anglers report successful lake trout catches around Pipeline, along the Red Cliffs at Pipeline and Sheep Creek, Jarvies along the eastern shoreline, Hideout and near the campground. You can also hit along the main channel at about 60-100 feet of water.
- Most anglers catching lake trout trolling or vertical jigging at between 50 and 100 feet. Try jigging with rap baits, jigging spoons, such as Northland Buckshots or Cripple Herrings, and tube jigs between 1/4 and 3/8 ounces or a length of 3-4 inches tipped with sucker or chub.
- Jigging lures tipped with cut bait such as suck or chub tend to yield a higher bite rate when targeting lake trout. Troll small spoons, crankbaits and dodger/squids.
- Lake trout are moving around. If you’re not marking fishing in one location, move to another. If you find fish but not getting a bit, change up your presentation.
- To protect spawning kokanee, anglers can’t harvest kokanee salmon between Sept 10 and Nov 30.
- Anglers are reporting good catch rates for rainbow trout and cutthroats between 30 and 50 feet of water in the bays and back coves. Cast to the shoreline line areas. Trolling dodgers/squids and small spoons, and jigging spoons tipped with cut bait, are good techniques for catching rainbows and cutthroats.
- Smallmouth bass fishing is strong. Target smallmouths with swim baits, jerkbaits and crankbaits. Jigging a ned rigs, curly tail, twist tail grub, or tube will also catch smallmouths. A few anglers report success fishing a ribbed style worm on a drop shot rig using a 1/0 drop shot hook with a 1/8oz drop shot weight. Let the drop shot rig hit the bottom and then slowly crawl it back up.
- A few anglers are reporting strong burbot catches from boat. The last few years have been down but 2024 counts are up! The best place to target burbot is along rocky points and shorelines in about 20-40 feet of water (give or take) during the night using glow-in-the-dark lures including Radical Glow Tubes, Yamamoto Grubs, and Northland Buckshots. Tip your hooks with cut bait for better effect. Jigging or deadsticking just off the bottom the recommended technique.
- Remember any burbot caught must be harvested.
