An employee of the Orvis Company, Perk Perkings, invented the Orvis Tippet Knot, which is a strong and easy knot for connecting leaders to tippets. Its tested strength is similar to the J Knot, and the Orvis Tippet Knot is preferred by many fly fishermen over the classic Blood Knot because it is easier and faster to tie. Learn how to tie the Orvis Tippet Knot following the 5 simple steps below.

Step 1: Lay the leader and tippet alongside one another overlapping about five inches. Holding the two lines together, double them back over themselves to create a loop.
Step 2: Wrap both ends down and behind the double lines.
Step 3: Pass the tag end of the leader line and the entire tippet line through the newly created loop two times.
Step 4: Lubricate the knot and pull the lines in opposite directions to tighten the knot.

Step 5: Trim the tag ends.
