Juneau isn’t only the capital of Alaska, it’s also one of Alaska’s top halibut fishing locations. But knowing where to target habibut in Juneau is key to having a successful fishing adventure.

There are numerous deepwater bays, channels and inlets surrounding Juneau that provide excellent halibut fishing. One of the most popular, is Gaastineau channel between Juneau and Douglas Island. For larger halibut, anglers will venture as far as Chatham Straight. Other top halibut fishing spots include Stephens Passage; the waters surrounding Grand Island; the west side of Mansfield Peninsula; and Auke Bay north of Juneau, to name just a few.
